Richard Smith - Street Dance Technique instructor

Richard studied locally at Lychett Minster Performing Arts School, gaining a double distinction grade in BTEC Performing Arts. He discovered Pure Funk (or we discovered him!) whilst we were delivering advanced street dance sessions for the students at the school. He knew instinctively that he wanted to join the Dance Company and very quickly went on to begin developing his teaching skills with us. Rich is now one of lead instructors for Pure Funk, and heads ‘ROCKiT’ alongside Sam.

Richard’s has dedicated his time since the age of 17 to self training and seeking constant development in many aspects of street and break technique, but his main passion’s are funk styles - and house! And he has taken part in many courses to develop his skills with some of the pioneers of these techniques.

 “I enjoy performing because it gives me a chance to express myself in ways that can’t be done by any other means! And I love teaching because I am passing on knowledge of specific dance skills which I find fascinating, and helping people build on something they enjoy doing.”
