DANCE CREW AUDITIONS

Sunday 23^rd AND 30^th August 2009

2pm-5:30pm@ Winton YMCA Dance Studios
You must have past/current dance experience and be available to attend on BOTH dates.

The renowned and highly respected 'Pure Funk Dance Crew' train and rehearse weekly on Sundays 12 weeks per term, working towards numerous performances and events over the year. This invaluable experience and training helps the individual dancer to develop on many levels; by broadening their range of styles, increasing skills, self-confidence and experience.

WHO IS IT FOR?
The Dance Crew is for young and gifted dancers aged between 10 and 30yrs that WE believe will thrive in our unique and high quality developmental dance environment. You NEED passion, commitment, teamspirit, and a love of numerous dance styles (not just Street!) Unlike many ‘street dance’ groups, the Pure Funk Dance Crew training has proved complimentary to many classically trained dancers. This is due to the fact that our style builds on core strength and emphasises the importance of adaptability for the commercial dance world.

WHAT DOES THE TRAINING INVOLVE?
The training itself takes place on Sundays at Rossmore Leisure Centre / OLGA, a specialist gymnastics facility and newly refurbished dance studio. All Dance Crew instructors are widely experienced and proven specialists in their respective fields. The sessions include:  

• Commercial Dance for Performance

• Contemporary Dance Technique

• Gymnastics Skills and Flexibility

• Street Dance Technique

  The third and final term also has an added focus on developing individual and group choreography, through preparation for the Crew’s annual Choreography Festival. Finally, at the end of the year all Crew members take part in a specially devised full-scale showcase production at the Lighthouse, Poole Centre for the Arts, open to the general public.

How old do you have to be to apply?

Entry to the Pure Funk Dance Crew is via annual audition. Age splits are as followa, but often the Crew work as a whole - particularly in the third term :

• Juniors 10-15yrs

• Seniors 16-30yrs 

DOES MY OTHER DANCE EXPERIENCE HELP!!?
We strongly advise that all those hoping to audition for the Crew attend a weekly class with Pure Funk where possible for a minimum of one term in the run up to the auditions. This gives us opportunity to gauge your ability to adapt and take direction, your attitude, and your commitment levels. Furthermore, taking part in at least one weekly ‘technique’ class is also an advantage to your application e.g. RAD or ISTD Ballet/Modern dance.
